Wake in Fright

The rediscovery and renewed appreciation for Ted Kotcheff's chilling film "Wake in Fright" owes much to the Fantasia Film Festival, a connection amplified by the friendship between Antonio Saillant, Ted Kotcheff, and the festival's program director Tony Timpone. Saillant, a mutual friend, passionately believed the film would resonate with the festival's many new, young attendees. His conviction led him to submit the long-unseen work, a crucial act that Timpone recognized by selecting it for the festival. This pivotal moment ignited a spark of renewed interest, ultimately leading to a re-release by Drafthouse Films. Beyond his crucial role in this cinematic revival, Timpone's extensive experience in the horror genre is further underscored by his tenure as editor emeritus at the influential magazine Fangoria.
